Make a Pop Up Tool Box Greeting Card

Make this pop up Tool Box Card which folds flat to fit in an envelope and is perfect for Father's Day, Mother's Day, a Birthday, or to say Thank You.

Follow these step by step instructions to make this box card or check out the video at the end to discover a different way to assemble this card.

Prepare to Make Card

Materials Needed

  • Cardstock (gray, red, blue, tan, white)
  • Glue
  • Cutting Machine (Such as Cricut, Silhouette, Brother ScanNCut, etc.)

Digital Files Needed

Prepare Pieces to Assemble

  • Cut out the SVG or DXF pieces for the Tool Box Card
  • Print and cut one of the PNG phrases (Happy Father's Day, Happy Mother's Day, Happy Birthday, or Thank You)
    (Tip: Refer to the Maker Guide PDF resource included with the Tool Box Card files for helpful printing, cutting and group/attach instructions.)

Assemble the Card

Glue the red side panels and the top and bottom drawer onto the gray card base. Evenly space the middle drawers between the top and bottom drawers and then glue in place.

Glue one of the greetings or the blank card to the gray card base.

Messages including 'Thank You', 'Happy Mother's Day', 'Happy Father's Day', and 'Happy Birthday' to add to a greeting card


Fold the side and bottom tabs toward the back of the gift card pocket.

Add dots of glue to each end of the bottom tab and glue to the side tabs.

Add a line of glue to both side tabs and along the bottom tab.

Glue the gift card pocket to the gray card base. Be careful not to glue the gift card pocket closed.

Flip the gray card base over, and then glue on the black square and the pegboard piece.

Glue the blue tool accent pieces onto the two gray tool layers. Fold the end tabs toward the back on both layers.

With the pegboard side of the card base facing up, fold each card base scoreline forward. Add a line of glue to the end tab of the card base.

Fold the card base in half with the tab on the inside of the card.

When the glue is dry, pop the card open to form a box shape.

Add glue to the front of the tabs on the hammer tool layer.

Place the tool layer inside the box opening.

Line up the top edges of the box with the top of the tool layer.

Line up the ends of the tabs with the back corners of the box. 

Glue the tabs to the side of the box.

Repeat with the wrench tool layer, but line up the ends of the tabs with the hammer layer.

The box card should still be able to fold flat and will fit inside and A2 envelope.
